Ortho Bionomy

Ortho-Bionomy is an Osteopathic-based, hands-on, therapeutic bodywork that is an effective treatment for both acute and chronic conditions. It is gentle and non-invasive and activates the body’s innate self-correcting reflexes. It's a type of bodywork that stimulates the natural reflexes and works with the proprioceptive nervous system.

Ortho-bionomy is not covered by extended health benefits.

In 2003 Susan became a registered practitioner of Ortho-Bionomy. She loves this work as it has kept her moving and helped deal with the pain and discomfort in her own body.

Susan has continued her education adding classes in Cranial Sacral, visceral, self-care, and many more, the most recent class was in Pelvic stabilization taught by Luann Overmyer who wrote the book on Ortho-Bionomy self-care.

Ortho-Bionomy is safe and gentle enough for new born infants, pre/post-operative care, mild discomfort, or acute body pain. It’s effective in dealing with chronic issues, sports injuries and many other common ailments.

During the session your comfort is her number one concern. Gentle movements and positions of the body are used to facilitate a change in stress, pain, and uncomfortable holding patterns, so the body can relax, rebalance and realign. The body’s structure is one of the key focuses.

Each session reflects individual needs and can be facilitated in any position-lying, sitting, or standing. Clients remain fully clothed in the session, so wearing comfortable clothing that allows full range of motion is preferred.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I am here to connect with and help clients navigate challenges toward healing and empowerment, even when it seems impossible. I recognize the strength and courage it takes to ask for help and that it can be uncomfortable at the same time. Sometimes we may carry painful or unhelpful beliefs that can lead to a disconnect between our authentic self and those around us. We may feel stuck in our thoughts, feelings, or behaviours. Growth starts with slowing down and getting curious about what’s working and what’s not. When we are curious about how we show up in the world, change begins. Through this journey, I believe in supporting people to deepen their own self-understanding in a safe therapeutic space.

My vocational and academic experiences have provided me with a breadth of knowledge in working with adults, youth, and families. I work from a client-centred and integrative approach to address issues such as addiction and recovery, trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, OCD, and personality disorders. I utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities depending on what fits best for clients, including psychodynamic, DBT, CBT, ACT, CPT, solution-focused, and mindfulness-based therapies.
